Cargo & Asset Security

Asset owners are concerned first and foremost with the assets themselves, not the containers that hold them, or the vessels that move them. And in many cases, the monitoring of the assets needs to be done without the world knowing.

DataTrail’s Cargo & Asset Security platform, through its value-added reseller (VAR) network, allows asset owners to monitor their valuable cargo, be alerted when it is threatened and initiate recovery or rescue when needed.

Covert Devices

Technology has progressed to the point that devices can be hidden covertly inside precious assets, without being detected.

The size is now small enough – smaller than a cell phone. Battery life is long enough to trace an asset as it travels across the country. Devices can be buried inside product within a crate or within a refrigerated trailer and still be located, through the use of assisted GPS methods.

DataTrail makes use of best-in-breed hardware technologies, including some of its own design, to make this happen.

Where Is It? How Is It?

Know where the assets are is the first consideration in managing them. DataTrail’s Cargo & Asset Security application lets the asset owner know the assets’ positions either on-demand or at regular intervals (and the intervals can be programmed to increase or decrease depending on where the asset has moved).

Alerts are sent when assets move to places they are expected to be, providing notification of a successful arrival for instance, or when they stray from predetermined routes or locations.

Just as important, however is knowing, and being alerted to, the state of the asset as it is stored, moved, or monitored. DataTrail’s application can detect and alert on the basis of environmental conditions such as humidity and temperature, or on the proximity of one asset to another. And, detection and real-time notification of tampering protects assets in ways they never could be before, or puts the asset owner in the position to catch thieves and vandals red-handed and initiate recovery protocols immediately.

Any Modality

DataTrail has developed a means of tracing the position and state of assets as they move not only across land and sea, but also as they travel by air. This has been considered previously impossible, due to the regulatory limitations on operating electronic devices in flight. DataTrail has worked out a means of solving this problem and now, using proprietary hardware and the DataBroker™ platform, packages and assets can be tracked even when they fly.

Services such as these fail to deliver on expectations when they become prohibitively expensive or when the tracking device runs out of power in mid-voyage.
